Letter to Stakeholders

Our 2020 illustrated by the President and by the CEO.

Dear Stakeholders,

Over the last year, characterised by change and by significant discontinuity, Sogei has reached important milestones, confirming the strategic leadership of the brand and guaranteeing continuity of the essential services provided for the country, thanks to the support of its people and the technological and IT resources.

What happened in 2020 taught us a lot: we designed and governed change, adopting a model of continuous training and of System Thinking and we contributed to the creation and sharing of value, constantly updating the contents in line with technological and social development. The continuous investment in technologies and innovation allowed us to promote and implement solutions to respond effectively and promptly to the needs of our customers, citizens, businesses and institutions.

The implementation of our hiring plan expanded the management team with the entry of 6 new managers and allowed us to hire 133 new colleagues including experts, new graduates and new diploma-holders; a further 282 hires are expected in 2021.

We managed an ever-increasing complex situation, maintaining the commitments undertaken with customers and with the market but also carrying out institutional collaborative projects and initiatives, extending the platforms created and the strategic projects beyond ordinary expectations. We thus supported the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Tax Agencies and all Customers in the role of digital provider of solutions aimed at guaranteeing the country concrete and functional responses, even in the emergency situation of the pandemic period while developing novel areas and services for new customers.

The huge effort made during the pandemic guaranteed the possibility of smart-working to more than 40,000 users of the financial administration, contributing to the personal protection of employees without loss of operational efficiency.  All this was achieved thanks to focused investments and swift action. Another distinctive element was the centrality of cyber security and data protection: again from the perspective of protecting citizens, we organically strengthened the entire IT security chain and enhanced collaboration with the DIS [Italian Security Information Department], as part of the national cyber security perimeter, as well as participating in projects and initiatives - including CyberKit4SME and the AgID sharing platform for the Certified Email Address – as a significant example of the value of public-private collaboration that will bring benefits to a wide audience of users, citizens and companies.

Our purpose "Let’s simplify the life of Us citizens” is inherent in our DNA and in our identity. Our skill in "anti-fragility" and continuous renewal, the constant search for innovation and the commitment in the diffusion of digital experience were further materialised through adopting of the “Digital Republic Manifesto”, with the training courses SNA, Web Consapevole [Web Aware] and Open Innovation (the first edition ended this year). Of all the strategic approaches adopted by the company the model of Customer eXperience Management (CXM), a model entirely adopted within the Lotteria degli Scontrini project, assumed even greater importance.

 

 

The 2020 financial year closed with a production value of 626 million Euro (8.6% compared to the previous year) and a net income equal to 27 million Euro, which is fully paid back to the Shareholder for their public finance purposes. The economic-financial results were used to understand the economic-asset identity of the company and its strategic orientation, the validity of the chosen model and the company's positioning in a frame of factors that define its social and economic context within which we perform our activities.

Our aim is to continue our journey as protagonists of the digital transformation, with a clear vision of the evolution of the country and through the supervision of all phases of the Digital Value Chain - from the conception and design to operation and maintenance.  This is in addition to the evolution underway in Europe, thanks to the successful participation, as day-one member, in the strategic initiative Gaia X, with which the European governments are promoting the federated adoption of a European Cloud platform.

This vision, that stems from a constant dialogue with our shareholder and from a sharing of future scenarios, is the basis of our strategy for the next three years (To BE the BOOSTER) and focuses on three objectives: digital innovation, an increase in scalability and in the degree of industrialisation, the transition to an increasingly oriented approach to the citizen eXperience. These objectives leverage on five strategic pillars, which are substantiated (1) in the introduction of innovative and technologically advanced solutions, (2) in the development of a technological innovation plan aimed at increasing the skills and the corporate assets in the main areas of digital transformation, (3) in the evolution of the offer of services and of the models of procurement, (4) in the development of a new operating model combined with continuous training and the enhancement of internal skills, (5) in the introduction of the Digital Ethics model and in the consolidation of sustainability as an essential element of the service delivery model; the real challenge will, in fact, be to make the action sustainable, a true driver of the development and creation of value for customers and for the entire country system.

A new challenge awaits us and it is still too early to be able to assess the economic and social impacts of what is happening but, as is our custom, we will look to the future with determination, guaranteeing the health and safety of our people and of their families, of our suppliers, consultants and partners while maintaining leadership, employment and service levels and the credibility gained in the field, fundamental elements not only for Sogei and its ecosystem but also in the context of the stability of the national economy and of the country system.
